There comes a moment when we realize we aren’t standing still because life has stopped.
We’re standing still because part of us is still holding on.
Holding on to old conversations. To disappointments. To expectations that were never met. To versions of ourselves that no longer fit the life we’re living today.
Sometimes we convince ourselves that letting go means forgetting.
But it doesn’t.
Letting go doesn’t erase what happened. It simply means we stop asking the past to become something different than it was.
That may be one of the hardest choices we ever make.
Because there is a strange comfort in carrying familiar weight. Even when it hurts, we know it. We understand it. We have learned how to live around it.
The unknown feels far more frightening than the pain we’ve already mastered.
But little by little, we begin to notice something.
The energy we’ve been using to hold everything together could become the energy that moves us forward.
Not because the wounds disappeared.
Not because life suddenly became easier.
But because we finally stopped fighting what could no longer be changed.
Maybe moving forward isn’t one giant leap.
Maybe it’s answering one phone call.
Taking one walk.
Accepting one invitation.
Starting one conversation.
Or simply waking up one morning and deciding that today deserves more attention than yesterday.
Every new current begins with a small shift in direction.
The ocean doesn’t change course all at once.
Neither do we.
Maybe Wave 49 isn’t about forgetting where we’ve been. Maybe it’s about trusting that what lies ahead deserves a chance to shape us just as much as what came before.
What about you?
Is there something you’ve been carrying for so long that it has started to feel like part of who you are? What would change if you loosened your grip, even just a little?
