Today felt like a different kind of courage.
Not the kind that feels confident or prepared—
but the kind that arrives as an impulse before thought catches up.
The impulse to reach out to someone.
To apply for something you’ve been quietly imagining.
To talk to a stranger without rehearsing it first.
To ask a question you didn’t plan to ask.
To give a compliment without editing it in your mind.
For a brief moment, it feels natural. Clean. Honest.
And then, almost instantly, something shifts.
Fear steps in.
Not always loud or dramatic—sometimes it’s subtle.
A tightening in the body. A pause in the breath.
A sudden distance between what you feel and what you do.
And in that space, everything slows down.
You start thinking instead of moving.
You start protecting instead of expressing.
You start observing your life instead of participating in it.
It can feel strange… like being yourself is something you have to negotiate with first.
But what if that hesitation isn’t a stop sign—just a threshold?
A moment where life is asking if you will follow what you already felt before fear arrived.
And still… it’s not easy. It never really is.
Because sometimes the hardest part isn’t knowing what you want—
it’s allowing yourself to act like the version of you who already knows.
Maybe courage is just that moment…
where you stop abandoning the impulse that was trying to lead you somewhere real.
Today felt like a small kind of courage.
The kind that doesn’t arrive fully formed—
it just shows up as an impulse.
Because sometimes courage isn’t loud.
It’s just not abandoning yourself in the moment you most want to disappear from.
To reach out to someone.
To apply for something you’ve been imagining.
To talk to a stranger.
To ask a question you’ve been holding.
To give a compliment without rehearsing it first.
And for a moment, it all feels natural. Almost simple.
But then something else steps in.
Fear.
Not always dramatic. Sometimes quiet.
A tightening. A pause. A subtle “wait.”
And suddenly the body stops what the heart already started.
You freeze—not because you don’t want it,
but because something inside you tries to protect you from being fully seen.
And you start questioning it all.
Why does it feel so hard to simply act from what you feel?
Why does being yourself feel like something you have to push through?
Maybe bravery isn’t the absence of that fear.
Maybe it’s noticing the exact moment you hesitate…
and still choosing to move, even slightly, anyway.
