There are things in life that take something from you, and then there are things that somehow give something back. Lately, I’ve been paying more attention to that difference—not just to what I’m doing, but to how I feel afterward.
When you find something you’re passionate about, something changes. You can spend hours thinking about it, creating, improving, wondering what could come next, and somehow you don’t always feel exhausted. You feel energized. You feel pulled toward it. Instead of leaving you with less, it seems to return something you didn’t realize you needed.
I think that can be one of the quietest ways we recognize what matters to us. Not because someone tells us it should matter, and not because we have finally figured out some perfect plan for our lives, but because something inside us feels more alive when we are doing it.
For a long time, I thought of purpose as one giant answer waiting somewhere ahead of me—as though one day everything would finally make sense and all the pieces would fall into place. But I’m beginning to see it differently. Purpose may not always arrive as one clear answer. Sometimes it reveals itself through the things that keep pulling us forward.
I still have plenty of pieces of my life to put together, but I don’t need every piece in place to recognize what makes me feel alive right now. There is something freeing about that. The more present I become, the more clearly I can feel the difference between what drains me and what brings something back.
Some prayers stay with you.
Like this one from last week’s devotional: “Lord, take me where You want me to go.”
That line stayed with me because there is something beautiful about leaving room for the unexpected. We often think about where we are going as a destination, a career, a relationship, a goal, or some carefully imagined version of our future. But what if the path is also shaped by the people we meet, the experiences we encounter, the ideas that spark something inside us, and the passions we didn’t know were waiting for us?
Sometimes we encounter something that wakes us up. Something that makes us want to learn more, create more, give more, or simply keep going. We don’t always have to immediately turn that feeling into a plan. Sometimes we can simply recognize it for what it is.
I don’t want to spend my life waiting for some future version of myself who has everything figured out.
I want to live the moment I’m in and become more aware of what makes me feel like myself again—what makes me curious, what makes me want to create, what makes me want to learn, and what gives me a reason to keep moving forward.
Maybe Wave 63 is asking us to look a little differently at the things we casually call distractions, hobbies, or simply matatiempo—something we do just to pass the time.
What if everything that seems unproductive isn’t actually taking us away from where we’re supposed to be?
What if some of those things are quietly giving something back—energy, curiosity, creativity, joy, or even a little piece of ourselves?
And that may be another way we learn to navigate the waves—not by knowing exactly where they will take us, but by paying attention to what gives us the energy to keep riding.
Because sometimes the things we are meant to encounter don’t drain us.
They awaken us.
What if the thing you keep calling a distraction is actually the part of your life that makes you feel most alive—and what would happen if you finally gave yourself permission to follow it?
